UPDATE (as of Nov 5th, 2014): After evaluating feedback from districts, educators, parents and other stakeholders in Florida, there has been a revision to the Computer Based Testing that will be administered this Spring. Grades 4-7 will complete their FSA Writing Test through Paper-Based administration. (Previously, this was only 4th grade.) Grades 8-11 will remain a Computer Based administration for the Writing component.
We are pleased that the DOE is listening to concerns and making adjustments that we feel are best for our students. 8th graders should continue to practice their typing skills so that they will be prepared for the writing assessment!
Below are some links on which your students can practice…
www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing -- Lots of lessons & games to practice
www.powertyping.com -- Select "Qwerty" for correct lessons
New! Practice FSA can be found at www.fsassessments.org

No student is allowed on campus with any medication. If the student brings in medications, it can result in a discipline referral -- this is a county regulation. Download the Dispersion of Medication Form here.

In our technology-rich world, our students have access to things that we may want to protect them from. Sometimes the thing we need to protect them from is themself. Sexting is becoming a wide-spread concern among teenagers in the world. Please review the Power Point link found here and have a conversation with your teenager as you see fit to inform them about the dangers of participating in this activity.

|This is an important announcement for parents of students in Okaloosa County schools
from Mary Beth Jackson, Superintendent of Schools.
"I want to reach out to you today as both Superintendent and as a parent to share with you my concerns about a highly offensive social media "app" called "After School" that is targeted at middle and high school students - The app is marketed as an anonymous and private message board for your school.
I want to emphasize that this app is in no way affiliated or endorsed by the school district and does not exist on our network.
In some cases, students have used this app to make hurtful, profane comments and in other cases display graphic and sexually explicit videos. Because the app allows for anonymous postings and occurs completely outside the school district's network, there is little we can do to track down information from a technology standpoint when a student is being targeted. Rest assured, however, your child's school will work with our Student Services department and local law enforcement officials when warranted to investigate any issues of cyberbullying that are uncovered.
This app has caused so much difficulty, in so little time, that I want to reach out to our students, staff, families, and the community to ask everyone to help monitor this app and to eliminate its use."

Having trouble figuring out how to get your child's assignments off the new grades-on-line? Here are a couple of steps to help:
(1) Log in with your student's number. The last four digits of this number is their password.
(2) When the "report card" view comes on the screen, scroll over to the grade from the class that you would like to check. This is a hyperlink that will take you to a view of the assignments for your child in that class.
(3) To see the class work, homework, and test scores that comprise each grade (the class report page),
put cursor on grade and left click.
If you want to receive e-mail notification regarding your student’s progress, the program is a bit different now.
