Okaloosa Regional Juvenile Detention Center is a high risk facility which accommodates both male and female youth. A student's length of stay ranges from 21 days and under or 22 days and over, depending upon the Judge's ruling. ORJDC is an exceptional facility and received the highest rankings of a detention facility in the state on its most recent Quality Assurance review on the educational indicators and on the facility indicators. Strong and innovative leadership from Ms. Howard, Director, and outstanding teachers and classroom assistants are the strength of the educational department. They provide all the curriculum needs of the student population from middle school and high school to GED preparatory. The latest technology is also available as computer assisted instruction is utilized in the three classrooms (two male and one female), and as teachers incorporate smart boards into their instructional delivery. Even though most students are short term, they receive intense instruction which enables them to return to their home school or to move on to a commitment program.
